VISITS & EXCURSIONS
Helped by our extensive knowledge of our wonderful region of Provence we love to find visits that reveal the very best of our area and are often off the beaten track. We do wherever possible try to avoid the large tourist crowds.
Below is a selection of some of the visits and excursions that may be included in our programmes. These will depend on the season of the year, weather and availability. For example gardens are often at their best in May, early lavender is usually ready in June, truffles are ready for hunting in October – and we can eat, market, wine taste, cook, picnic and walk in the glorious countryside at any time.
Classes are integrated into our programme of activities and are often based around our discoveries. We may visit a market in the morning and return to discuss an aspect of our trip in the afternoon. We take a flexible approach. There is lively conversation in French during our breaks and lunchtimes and plenty of guidance and encouragement for students who are just beginning to expand their familiarity with the wonderful French language.

The Luberon area has become renowned worldwide for its production of delicious rosé wines. This programme gives you the opportunity to visit the vineyards, taste the wonderful variety of Luberon wines under the guidance of our entertaining wine guide and oenologue and at the same time visit and enjoy some of the picturesque famous ‘perched’ villages of the Luberon including Gordes, Roussillon and Bonnieux.

The beautiful town of St Rémy has strong associations with Van Gogh. Van Gogh arrived in St Rémy in 1889 and produced more than 150 paintings and sketches in the space of a year. This period is considered to be a highly significant and happy one in the work of Van Gogh. Our visit includes the town of St Rémy, a guided tour and a drive through the sublime landscapes so loved by Van Gogh to the village of Les Baux de Provence and the Carrières de Lumière. Here we will visit one of the most breathtaking natural exhibition centres in the region.

A wonderful opportunity to visit the spectacular lavender fields of Haute Provence and the Luberon and a lavender distillery. Our excursions will also include enchanting mountain villages and a picnic in the scented hills. A great week for photography lovers and hugely popular with all our previous participants!

The colours, smells and sights and sunshine of our Provence markets are legendary. From antiques in L’Isle sur la Sorgue, to produce at Coustellet and a vast array of everything in Apt – and many many more – the choice is infinite. Our week includes daily morning market visits and a fabulous cookery lesson with lunch or dinner and wine. Afternoon classes will teach you just how to ask for everything you need or want!

Our visit to a truffle farm and plantation in the heart of a magical Provence landscape is the opportunity for you to learn how truffles are cultivated and dogs are trained, and to participate in a truffle hunt. To finish these fascinating tours we are treated to a feast of champagne and delicious of black truffle apéritifs.
